Abstract
Hemophilia is one of the most common serious congenital coagulation factor deficiency diseases characterized by decreased function or absence of factor VIII or factor IX that is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Aim: the current study aimed to assess caregivers' knowledge and practice regarding care of their children with hemophilia. Research design: a descriptive research design was used. Setting: the study was conducted at inpatient department and outpatient clinic in Badr University Hospitals affiliated to Helwan University Hospitals and Mustafa Hassan pediatric Hospital affiliated to Fayoum University Hospitals. Sample: the study involved 60 children suffering from hemophilia disease. Tool: consists of two tools: I: A structured interviewing questionnaire, II: Observational checklist. Results: All of studied children were male. The most of studied children were hemophilia A. More than half of studied caregivers had unsatisfactory knowledge regarding hemophilia. Less than two thirds of studied caregivers had inadequate practice regarding care of their children with hemophilia. Conclusion: the present study concluded that there were a statistical significant deferences between caregivers' characteristics and their total knowledge and their total practice regarding care of children with hemophilia. Recommend to: continuous health education to caregivers regarding hemophilia, complications, management plan and Increase awareness of public health about preventive measures such as genetic counseling, premarital screening for carrier state.
